Last night, Lucas told me a story about his colleague's snorkelling experience in Papua New Guinea (or was it Vanuatu):

"There he was, flipping around, further away from the shore, and then suddenly, he looked down, and there was just this drop in the ocean floor, this black gaping hole, an abyss with no discernible end. He said that the feeling was so overwhelming that it winded him."
